Courtney Moffett
1. Tell me about yourself. (Where
you are from, where you grew up,
your family, your day job etc.)
I was born
& raised in Columbus, GA. I have
been married to a wonderful man, Adam, for six years. We have two boys and we are expecting a baby
girl in January! I am an assistant to
the 4th grade at a local elementary school (and I love every minute of it!)
2. How did you get into selling Mary Kay? What are your top 3 favorite
products && why?
I started
selling Mary Kay August 3, 2013. I had
been using the products for seven years and I knew it worked wonderfully on
your skin. A good friend of mine
introduced the wonderful opportunity to me.
We needed extra income and it has provided just that! I mean, I paid off a credit card my first
month in the business! My three favorite
Mary Kay products are the lip glosses (it stays all day and makes your lips
look very sexy), the Mineral Powder Foundation (gives your skin a smooth, clean
look), and the Miracle Set (makes your skin healthy).
3. What is your greatest achievement outside of your career??
I can
honestly say that I have not yet reached my goal. I am also in school to be an elementary
school teacher. When I graduate, I will
achieved my goal outside Mary Kay.
4. Where do you see your business in the next two years?
I see myself
with six more active Beauty Consultants (I currently have one) on my team and
me driving one of the Mary Kay Career Cars!
5. What sets you apart from others in your field?
I am very
unconventional. I don't fit the
"Beauty Consultant Mold". I
like to have fun when I do parties or consultations. I will work with any theme that the customer
wants, with no hesitation what so ever.
I mean, what other consultant do you know that has done bridal shower
with a sex toy theme?
6. What are your inspirations?
Have three
inspirations: (1) My family: They push
me and support me 100%. (2) Mary Kay
Ashe: In the 60's, she broke the mold by being a female business owner, of a
business for women, with all female employees.
(3)My customers: To see the looks on their faces after they have used
one of our products.... They are always
happy. To see someone happy makes me
happy!
7. Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be
the most significant in your career.
I am working
on adding more people to my team. I want
more people to experience the increase I have in the past year. I want more people to experience the
happiness I have experienced when I see a customer happy with what they have
tried or bought. I want to encourage
more people to get out there and inspire people to do the same!
8. What do you like most about your profession?
Again, the
satisfaction of the customers. Knowing
that they are happy with what they have makes me want to keep doing this more
and more everyday!
9. What do you like least about your profession?
It really
get's under my skin when people expect me to "hook them up". I have to constantly remind friends and
family, alike, when it comes to my business, us being "cool" does not
get me paid.
10. Do you have any advice to anyone looking to start out?
The key to
being successful is NOT GIVING UP! With
any small business, it may seem hard because you are trying to gain exposure
and market your product- especially when you have a lot of competition. Just keep praying, keep pushing, and keep
believing. Trust me, all of this is why
I am still a PROUD MARY KAY SENIOR CONSULTANT!

1 .
Tell me about
yourself. (Where you are from, where you grew up, your family etc.)
Hello! My
name is Bree, I am from Rochester, NY but recently moved to Chapel Hill, NC
with my long-term boyfriend after graduating undergraduate. I have a Bachelor
of Science in Biology and Spanish minor and I plan to apply to medical school.
2.
What is the story behind the name QUIRKY BROWN
LOVE?
Well, first
off, I love romance movies! If I ever need a good cry, all I have to do is get
a glass of wine and a Nicholas Sparks movies; however, I noticed that none of
the characters in Nicholas Sparks’ movies looked like me. Actually, none of the
characters in any of my favorite movies resembled my relationship with my
boyfriend, Matt. I began to search online for coming-to-age love movies about
African Americans and the closest thing that I found...was House Party. Then I
typed in 'African American romance movies' and found a trend in all of the
movies that popped up; Every movie was about either a mature black man or
woman, or had something to do with "Thug Luv" (...didn't even know
that was a genre), or was about someone cheating or, of course, about slavery
days. But, none were about quirky adventures. I looked up the same for Latin
Americans, Native Americans and Indian Americans (Slumdog Millionaire was the
closest), yet all I found was a whole bunch of stereotypes. Why can't there be
a love story about a black girl who loves alternative-indie music and bonds
with a Black, Hispanic or Indian guy (or a combination of all three) that likes
the same music and they travel through the night to secret concerts? Or a story
about a Pakistani guy who falls in love with a girl, but has to transform into
a superhero to beat off all of her exes. So from the day that I started to
question why such movies don't exist, I decided to start Quirky, Brown Love, a
movement that will let us write our own love stories, even if the filmmakers
never do.
3.
How
did you get into blogging??
Well my
first time blogging was when I was a sophomore in college. I started as a way
to relieve stress from college (chemistry was my vice!). This time around,
however, I went for a more focused topic on relationships. I was inspired by
the lack of fun and spontaneous relationships displayed of people of color in
the mainstream media.
4.
Where
do you see your blog in the next two years?
I hope that
my blog will definitely evolve and that I will have inspired over 100 couples
to share their relationship stories. I am also starting a segment in January
that I hope that I can help inspire others to rekindle and build on their
relationships.
5.
What sets you
apart from other bloggers?
I hope that
my passion shows through my writing for my blog. I feel more like an activist
as oppose to a blogger most of the time. I do blog for fun, but I also hope to
spread a message to all of my readers.
6.
What
are your inspirations?
For my blog,
my relationship with my boyfriend is my inspiration. I honestly couldn’t
imagine being single in today’s society so I feel really lucky to be with Matt.
Plus he is an absolute goofball, so he inspires a lot of my posts.
7.
Tell me about a
project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your
blog career.
Starting
January 1st, I will be doing a project on my blog called 365 dates in which I
will go on a date will my boyfriend every day in 2015. I know that it sounds
crazy and expensive, but I have come up with a list of dates that won’t break
the bank and are compatible to our busy work schedules. I am hoping that this
year, I will inspire other couples to take a few minutes out each day for their
significant other.
8.
What
do you like most about blogging?
I love my
blog interviews! I do interviews with different couples about their
relationship and I love gaining insight on how other couples make their
relationships work.
9.
What do you like
least about blogging?
I think the
time management part of blogging is what I struggle with the most. It can be so
difficult to blog consistently when life gets in the way.
10.
Do
you have any advice to anyone looking to start blogging?
Find
something that you are really passionate about and blog about that. My first
blog was successful, yet I felt that my posts were too disorganized and not
specific to any audience. Looking back at that blog, it looks like anyone could
have written it. Currently, I am focusing on appealing to an audience so my
advice is to make your content unique to your blog.
What is the best way for people to get in contact with you if they
would like to be featured on your blog?

1. Tell me about yourself. ( Where
you are from, where you grew up, your family etc.)
Well I am 26 years old, have 3 girls, and a fiancée. I am going into the
second year of my own business and I have been doing taxes for 6 years. I was
born and raised in Columbus, GA.
2. How did you get into doing taxes?
An old friend of mine gave me the idea. She asked me about it and then I
kind of blew it off. She started taking the classes right across the street
from the apartments I was staying in. She came over after her first class and
convinced me to sign up. I wasn’t doing anything really due to the fact I was 8
mths preggo with my second child. So I started the classes and loved them!
3. What made you decide to start your own company?
I really didn’t like how I was getting paid and what I was getting paid. I
knew from a business stand point that it was how it was supposed to be but I
also knew I could make much more on my own and after getting the experience and
knowledge I needed I branched off.
4. Where do you see your company in the next two years?
I see it being a well-known business that employs people who really want
to work from home and I also see myself having a reasonable amount of
clientele.
5. Engaged to be married, mother of 3, work and attend school full time,
how do you find the time to do everything and still keep your sanity?
Whew! I have a large amount of help from my Fiancé! He helps me with our home, our children, running
errands, and whatever else I need. I still try to divide my time up so I can
enjoy my family and also focus on my work and career.
6. What are your inspirations?
My children are my inspirations! I want to give them the world and more.
Also my mentor Renisha Hinton! I see what she has risen above and the
challenges she faced coming up and where she is now. I know that I can also do
the same. I just need to be more dedicated as I know I can be.
7. Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the
most significant in your career.
My business is a huge accomplishment for me. I set out to do it and I had
so many obstacles in my way and I overcame them all. I thank God that he was
there to lead me through it all.
8. What do you like most about your profession?
I like that I get to meet different people, I can educate people on things
we all need to know when it comes to taxes, and lets not forget the money lol!
9. What do you like least about your profession?
I hate the fact it is only a seasonal career, sure its people that prolong
their filing dates and wait until the middle or almost end of the year to file
but the busiest months are Jan-Mar.
10. Do you have any advice to anyone looking to start out?
Find a good mentor/trainer in this field. Soak up all the knowledge you
can from them, keep current on the laws and ethics, and then branch out. Stay
under a person for at least 2 years, I suggest 3years, so you can understand
taxes and last but not least if possible part on good grounds. Just because you
are opening your own business in the same field does not mean you have to be
enemies. Its enough money and people out here for everyone.
What is the best way for
people to get in contact with you if they would like to get their taxes done?

1. Tell me about yourself. (Where
you are from, where you grew up, your family etc.)
My Name is Amber. I am a Columbus native and Jordan High
Graduate.
2. How did you get into doing nails?
I come from a family full of
beauty professionals, my grandmother; aunt, mother, and sister were all
beauticians. As a child I grew up in the salon and hair just became second
nature. I grew older and decided I
wanted to do something different. I know it would still be in the beauty
industry because that’s what was in my blood and let’s face it women pay to
look good. I gravitated into the nail industry because there weren’t many
African American nail techs and like I said before I wanted to be
different. Growing up close with my
father, who is an amazing artist, aided in the creativity that I put into my
nail art.
3. What is your greatest achievement
outside of your career??
To me, the greatest of my all of
my achievements (which may not be measured the same to others) was beating the
statistic and graduating high school ON TIME as a teenage mother. So many
people look down or place a stigma on teenage mothers now days and a lot of
them think it is just the end of the world. Well I think it was an awesome
blessing and I wouldn’t change it for the world, my message is NOT for
teenagers not to be careful and that teenage pregnancy is “ok”, But to those
who have found themselves in that situation, it is NOT the end of the world.
Becoming a mother gave me more dedication, determination, focus, and purpose in
my life. I had a whole life depending on me and my actions and from that point
on failure was not an option.
4. Where do you see your business in
the next two years?
In the next few years I am considering
expanding my brand and utilizing my instructor certification. I don’t want to
spoil it so just stay tuned!
5. Where can people view your work?
Some of my work can be found on
Instagram @bossy_nails .
6. What are your inspirations?
Most of my work is inspired by
the personality of my client I have such a diverse clientele they keep my
horizons broad.
7. Tell me about a project or accomplishment
that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
1. Going to school and obtaining
my nail tech license, you would be surprised at how many nail techs are out
here and are self-taught and uneducated. Nails enhancements are much more than
just pretty nails. There are many safety precautions that are missed because of
lack of knowledge.
2. Becoming a licensed nail tech
instructor. It was important to me to share my knowledge, love, and passions
for nails with those who were pursuing the same goal.
8. What do you like most about your
profession?
The thing I love most about my
profession is that it’s always changing, there is always some new trend or
fashion and keeping up is so refreshing. You never have a dull moment.
9. What do you like least about your
profession?
The only thing I can think of
that I may like least is sometimes people don’t know the value of your work. In
any self-employed service profession you are always going to have so called
“friends” that always want the “hook up”. It just baffles me how they may feel
that they are entitled to a discount just because we are “friends/ family”. But
I have always said do something you have a passion for. You will know it’s you
passion because it’s something you would do for free.
10. Do you have any advice to anyone
looking to start out?
My advice to anyone starting out
is to set your own measurements for you success. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s
not worth it and it’s a waste of time, always stay current with what’s new and
trending , and practice, practice,
practice !!!!!
What is the best way for people to get in
contact with you if they would like to get their Nails done?
The best way to get in contact with me is by phone
